Ryan Fitzgerald:
Welcome back to One Next Step. I’m so excited about this extra content with Madison. in this episode, Madison gave us an excellent overview of BELAY’s process for hiring Virtual Assistants, but what specific things should you look for in conducting an interview? That’s what Madison’s gonna share in this bonus episode. So Madison, can you share some of the characteristics that set a great VA apart from the crowd during the interview process?
Madison Morgan:
Yeah, absolutely. I kind of touched on this earlier, but for me, it really ties back to the soft skills, Ryan. Confidence is the biggest thing that sets the great Virtual Assistants apart from the crowd. I don’t know about you, but if my admin, Rochelle, didn’t show up with confidence, I would not be confident handing my life over to her to run for me. So in my days recruiting, and even now when I’m coaching my team of recruiters, I tell them that confidence is definitely the number one trait that’s gonna lead to a successful admin. They need to be confident to dive into ambiguous situations, to lead up, to show up with a presence that says, ‘I got this and I got you.’
Ryan Fitzgerald:
That’s so good. Having just gone through this process when we got to the assistant that I just hired, it was just, I was like, ‘Oh, I trust you.’ There was that chemistry and confidence in her that she could take it, and it really did, honestly, when I realized, ‘Oh, I like you and I trust you,’ the skills, I was like, ‘Oh, well, you’ve got thoes, those are much easier.’ It really does make a difference.
Madison Morgan:
Right. And I’d say if you find someone with the confidence, if they’re, they’ve never used some tool that you use on your team, they’re gonna go learn. They’re gonna roll up their sleeves, they’re gonna figure it out because they’ve got the confidence. They believe in themselves that they can do this job well. So, I could talk about it all day. I think it’s the number one thing that sets the rockstars apart.
Ryan Fitzgerald:
It’s so true. I was talking with my VA this morning and I was basically telling her, ‘Hey, you’re doing a great job,’ because we’re like a week and a half in. I said ‘You’re doing a great job. You’re learning so fast.’ Like, I’m so impressed how quickly you’re learning. And she said back to me, and I actually really loved this, but it was just full of confidence. She was like, ‘Well, I’m really glad to know that the thing that I sold myself on in the interview was actually true.’ And it was a very funny moment, but I was like, ‘Oh gosh, she’s spot on.’ You know?
Madison Morgan:
Yeah. That’s perfect. That’s exactly what I’m talking about right there.
Ryan Fitzgerald:
