124 Bonus: How Your VA Can Help With Social Media

One Next Step Podcast

About This Episode

In this Bonus Next Step, BELAY Solutions Consultant Theresa Summerlin breaks down the pros and cons of hiring a virtual assistant to help run your social media, versus hiring a dedicated social media manager.

1. Your VA can get you started on social media.

A Virtual Assistant is a pro at lane shifting in all of the things they are capable of helping you with. With social media, they can set up your platforms, gather content and get it organized as well. A lot of our leaders have content — and your VA can certainly help you with that in getting organized and getting your content library built out. They can start engaging and maintaining your social presence.

2. Your VA can work on social listening for you.

Social listening is not about posting, but it is about commenting. A Virtual Assistant could very easily go out on your behalf and interact with other people on social media by proactively engaging with potential customers.

Amy Appleton:

Welcome back, Teresa, to the One Next Step. So let’s jump right in. What are the pros and cons of having your VA work on your social media?

Theresa Summerlin:

So, one of the pros would be if you are not ready for a Social Media Manager, you can use your Virtual Assistant to get you ready. And they can also support you in other areas of your business that require, for example, dedicated time managing your inbox, scheduling, travel, etcetera. So I call it lane shifting. So a Virtual Assistant can shift lanes, but as far as social media, they can set up your platforms. If you are very new to the game, a Virtual Assistant that we call ‘social savvy’ can set up your platforms. They can help you gather content and get it organized as well. We were just talking about that. A lot of our leaders have content. It’s more or less a stream of consciousness, whether it’s in audio or whatnot, but they can certainly help you with that in getting organized, getting your content library built out. They can start engaging, they can start conversation on social. They can also maintain your presence. So I think that’s part of the goal, right? Are we looking to level up? Social Media Manager. Are we looking to maintain our presence because we wanna have some validity in the world of social? That might just be a Virtual Assistant. So there are pros there.

Amy Appleton:

Yeah. I think to your point, going back to that organization, getting things set up, the first steps is great. I mean, there are things like Canva. There are a million other tools and applications that are great for just starting out on social media from a graphic perspective. And then, one thing that we had learned in some consulting that we got as an organization was about social listening. And that is actually not about posting, but it is about commenting. It is about, actually. So it’s, and a Virtual Assistant or Executive Assistant could very easily go out on your behalf and interact with other people on social, kind of the same thing that they’re typically looking for on their own channels, but actually then proactively go out and engage with the people of … with potential customers and actually start a direct conversation the other way. And that’s something that a Virtual Assistant could very easily, easily do.

Theresa Summerlin:

Right. I love it. Social listening.

Amy Appleton:

Social listening.

Theresa Summerlin:

It’s good etiquette, right?
