Harris III is a professional illusionist, speaker, storyteller and entrepreneur. He is passionate about helping solopreneurs move out of their old life and old ways of thinking and find the new life they want to live. His transformation map and concept of the Wonder Switch are life-changing tools for entrepreneurs.
I sat down with him to talk about how to succeed while doing something you love.
If you are an entrepreneur or leader who feels stuck and possibly unmotivated, this episode of One Next Step is just for you.
There’s no difference between a con man and a magician in terms of the concepts they use.
The difference is in their motives — one uses deception to make people happy. The other uses deception to benefit himself at the expense of others.
We are storytelling creatures as human beings. We make sense of the world by creating a story that we tell ourself, all those stories that we create, they form what I consider an overarching narrative.
The stories we believe, true or not, affect our behaviors. When the old story is gone, we can start painting a new story that fills us with courage instead of fear.
And when change happens, there’s a movement from an old story to a new story.
But when we get caught in the liminal space of the in between, we have to figure out what to do with that.
Wonder allows us to develop a new understanding of what those stories and our minds are doing to our thinking, choice making and behavior.
But they also help us understand that when liminal space is a blank slate, instead of being scared by it, because the old story’s gone, we can actually get really excited about the opportunities we have to pick up a paint brush and start painting a new story.
And if we can get to the point where we learn how to use our imaginations properly, I think we can do that with courage instead of fear.
It’s not that skills aren’t important, but sometimes we miss the power of our mindset and how it affects the business. To build your skill set, learn through a combination of content, community and coaching. If you think of it as a triangle, there is content, coaching and community.
As people are drawn to build their skill sets, they tend to be drawn towards content. And when they consume content in the context of community, they are able to thrive.
