BELAY Blog: How To's & Tips on Leadership & Remote Working

Why Most Entrepreneurs Struggle with Managing Money

Most entrepreneurs are so busy making money that they aren’t very good at managing and understanding it. The solution? A remote bookkeeper.

In this episode of One Next Step, I talked to Lisa about some problems entrepreneurs face when wanting to get started with a bookkeeper, and how to overcome them.

Here are some takeaways I shared:

1. Don't worry about getting everything in order before you delegate.

The “shoebox method” is OK! Bookkeepers thrive on getting things organized and in the correct order, so they anticipate having to do that.

Your bookkeeper is going to understand if organization is not your gifting. It’s better to attack the problem sooner rather than later before everything piles up.

Go ahead and pass off the bookkeeping and let the professional fix it.

2. Sometimes you have to rip off the Band-Aid.

If you’ve been doing your own bookkeeping, it might feel hard to hand it over.

You might feel vulnerable. But in order to grow as a leader, you need to let it go.

You’ll end up having more knowledge of your finances and your business. And, as a result, you’ll be able to make better decisions in the future.

Delegation is key. It will allow you to make better decisions going forward.

3. Find a trusted professional.

You want someone with the experience you need who will serve you well. BELAY is very intentional about who they bring in as a Bookkeeper. A lot of leaders don’t even know where to turn when it comes to this topic.

BELAY can help. We have professionals who most likely have experience in your industry and are eager to work for you.

The problems that you have on the financial side of your business are things that our Bookkeepers can handle. Finding a trusted professional who has the experience that you need will be someone who can serve you well.
