Are you looking to build and grow your marketing and sales processes? If so, this Masterclass episode is just for you.
In this episode, LZ, several guests and I help small business owners who might not have a fully staffed sales/marketing team learn how to take their marketing game to the next level!
Here are a few of our top takeaways:
1. Think about everything through the lens of your customer.
What are their problems that you know you can solve? You are simply the guide who should be pointing them in the right direction.
So always be listening to what they are telling you and talk back to them in that language.
Be as specific as possible when you do it — specificity can actually be a way you open the door to a broader audience.
2. Your first marketing hire should be a “marketing generalist.”
This person should become your brand expert. They should know what you are doing already and be able to replicate that. They should also have strong operational and planning abilities.
Creativity can help but shouldn’t drive the hiring decision unless they can make an idea move from planning to execution. Otherwise, that’s not marketing — that’s just ideas.
3. If you can’t hire for marketing yet, use the “market by committee” approach.
The objective is to free up a leader’s time so they can focus on growing the business. Identify all the things you want to be doing from a marketing standpoint, and then divide them up among your current team.
Everyone can wear a marketing hat until you are able to hire for that position later.
In today’s business world, leaders don’t have the luxury of being average. A business is built on plans and ideas, but those aspects go nowhere without execution. When looking through that consumer lens, it’s crucial to have the right team or to make the right hire as you move forward.
