Nine in ten content marketers now use AI somewhere in their process. Three years ago, almost none did.
That's the fastest adoption curve content marketing has seen in over a decade. It happened without most teams pausing to ask what they were giving up to make room for it.
Results didn't follow.
The numbers, at a glance:

Not exactly. Marketers who use AI and marketers who don't report almost identical rates of strong results, both close to 14 percent. Using AI isn't the variable that predicts whether content performs. Something else is.
Content reviewed by a human editor performs at nearly twice the survey benchmark.
Original research adds a 50 percent lift.
Guest posting and influencer collaboration both outperform, too. Both are also down double digits year over year, the same years AI use climbed.
What's declining while AI use climbs:
Every one of these needs a person attached. None of them are optional extras. They're the tactics carrying the results.
18.9 percent of marketers say they don't know if their content is working at all, up sharply from prior years.
Adoption is outpacing measurement. Teams are moving faster and checking less, so most won't notice the problem until someone asks them to explain a quarter of flat numbers.
This lines up with something BELAY has believed since the beginning: Results come from the people doing the work, not just the tools they use. BELAY's staffing model has always put a real professional behind every task, because judgment, research, and relationship-building were never things a tool could fully replace. This data is simply a new way of saying what BELAY was built around.
A tool can draft faster. It cannot research your market, edit for judgment, or build the relationship that makes a guest post land somewhere that matters. Those are still someone's job.
If your content plan doesn't have a person doing that job right now, this is the data that explains why results are slipping, quietly, while the output looks the same or better on paper.
92.4 percent, according to Orbit Media's 2026 State of Blogging survey.
13.9 percent, the lowest rate in 12 years of tracking.
No measurable difference. Marketers who use AI and those who don't report nearly identical rates of strong results.
Human-edited content, original research, guest posting, and influencer collaboration all outperform the survey benchmark.
People were never the bottleneck in content marketing. They were the part of the process most likely to be quietly cut. It's the reason BELAY has never treated people as the part of the model to automate away.
